CHALTE CHALTE
Producer: Dreamz Unlimited & UTV Motion Pictures
Director: Aziz Mirza
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee
Music: Jatin-Lalit & Aadesh Shrivastava
Lyrics: Javed Akhtar, Pappy Dhilon and Babu Mann
Dreamz Unlimited is back again with its new venture titled Chalte Chalte
featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee in lead roles. Although the
majority of Dreamz Unlimited's films have faced troubled waters at the
box office, the fact remains that having popular melodious music has been
a key feature in all of their projects. Chalte Chalte also carries this
tradition accordingly. The film has music duo Jatin-Lalit and Aadesh Shrivastava
arranging tunes for the soundtrack, whilst acclaimed lyricist Javed Akhtar
gets his pen drenched in ink and provides some beautifully romantic lyrics
for the album. Pappy Dhillon and Babu Mann also play a part in the proceedings
by writing lyrics for one track: Layi Vi Na Gayi. Music giant, T-Series
releases the soundtrack, which has eight tracks in total. The music is
well composed, melodious and easily grows on all types of listeners.
1- Tauba (Abhijeet and Alka)
The soundtrack starts well with a romantic and melodious song, Tauba Tumhare.
Rendered by singers Abhijeet and Alka Yagnik, the number directly enters
in the hearts. Abhijeet catches the rhythm perfectly whereas Alka delivers
the song with much ease and sweetness. Jhankaar and drumming in the background
have hearing effects whereas the musical beauty all around sounds good.
Playing guitar in the end creates romance all the way. Versatile and creative
lyricist Javed Akhtar who is a man of rich experience pens beautiful and
heart warming lyrics here. The duo of Jatin-Lalit scores soft music for
this number. They deserves full marks for arranging rhythmical tunes,
which will stay with the listeners for a longer period of time. The track
is currently on air these days starring SRK and Rani Mukherjee. The direction
is good and the choreography fetches full marks. The sophisticated outfits
of both the artists look impressive. Overall a well composed number and
deserves repeated hearings.
Rating: 7/10
2- Chalte Chalte (Abhijeet and Alka)
Abhijeet again pairs up with Alka Yagnik to deliver the title track, Chalte
Chalte. It's a melodious soft number and starts with a very well sung
narration by Abhijeet along with light composed background music, which
is very soothing to the ears. The song then gets momentum and catches
the tunes smoothly. Both the vocalists sing their respective portions
sweetly and sharply by catching the breath of the listeners. The drumming
sounds good and the violin and light use of jhankaar lift the spirits.
Javed Akhtar perfectly fills the lyrics with required wording and Jatin-Lalit
fasten their belts to arrange a pleasant audible music. Their composed
music conveys the mood of the song accurately. The song is presently showing
itself on satellite channels these days featuring SRK and Rani again.
The direction and choreography both seem positive. A well orchestrated
song altogether.
Rating: 7/10
3- Layi Vi (Sukhwinder)
Layi Vi Na Gaye appears next having velvety fire voice vocalist Sukhwinder
Singh doing the honours. It starts energetically with electric raags by
Sukhwinder Singh with soft music providing a pleasant experience to the
ears. Once the song gets rhythm it becomes a soothing treat for the listeners.
Sukhwinder remarkably and brilliantly holds the tunes and renders the
number with perfect ease. The electrifying and energetic delivery of his
vocals makes the fingers press repeat button time and again. Amongst other
instruments, dholki, flute, Saarangi and duphli make their mark and provide
comfort to the ears. Pappy Dhillon and Babu Mann have penned the folk
lyrics in Punjabi and these lyrics happen to be the actual energy of the
song. Aadesh Shrivastava scores a brilliant piece of music and through
the tunes he shows his creative class too. Overall the number is an impeccable
gift for folk music lovers.
Rating: 8/10
4- Gumshuda (Sonu Nigam)
A solo by versatile Sonu Nigam comes next in the album. The song "Gumshuda"
starts well with the impressive voice of Sonu, who excels in singing here.
However the background chorus does not fit well with the music. The track
is about a boy who meets a girl and falls in love with her and then goes
ahead to search her. The song has been running continuously on music channels
recently fetching the applaud of the viewers in terms of good direction
and choreography. Both Shah Rukh and Rani look attractive in the song.
The lyrics are average but Javed Akhtar does not satisfy the listeners.
This type of poetry does not suite with the mature character like SRK.
Javed Sahib must have hummed and ha'd carefully before penning lyrics
for great khan. Drumming in the background raises the spirits. Music is
fast. Jatin-Lalit fails to qualify as good musicians here and score an
average music. Overall, a passable track.
Rating: 4/10
5- Chalte Chalte (Instrumental)
An instrumental, Chalte Chalte takes its place energetically in the soundtrack.
A well composed track to provide sweetness to the ears of the listeners.
Rating: 8/10
6- Dagariyo (Udit and Alka)
Udit Narayan teams up with Alka Yagnik to deliver an item number, Dagariyo
Chalo. Both the singers do true justice to their respective jobs by singing
the song accurately as per the narration of the lyrics and according to
the tunes arranged by the composers. Amongst other instruments, dholki
and flute sound better. Lyricist Javed Akhtar seems as if he was running
out of creativity because the lyrics are completely below average. The
composers duo Jatin-Lalit seem tired consequently they take rest with
this song after all they have worked very hard earlier in this album by
composing good audible music. So they deserve a bit rest...don't they?
The end result is very average.
Rating: 4/10
7- Suno Na (Abhijeet)
Abhijeet pockets a lovely, romantic solo, Suno Na Suno Na. A completely
melodious song to amuse the listeners in all moods. This song by Abhijeet
can be rated amongst his better tracks and is the highlight of the entire
soundtrack. The delivery of "Hey Hey" by Abhijeet provides real comfort
to the ears thanks to his soothing vocals. Abhijeet sings the song in
perfect rhythm. He has sung a number of award-winning songs for SRK in
the past and this one can also push the tradition up. Chorus in the background
also proves its supremacy. Dholki spreads romance all around and the light
use of tabla creates a gorgeous touch of love and romance whereas guitar
proves its mettle too. Javed Akhtar, getting his energies back, once again
pens lovely and award winning lyrics here. Music by Aadesh is soft and
shows the composer's creative head. Overall a brilliant number by a brilliant
team.
Rating: 9/10
8- Tujh Par (Sukhwinder)
Sukhwinder Singh locks up the album with a fast paced number, Tujh Par
Gagan Se. The song begins with an electric music. The track is high-pitched
and requires so much energies of the vocalist. Sukhwinder fulfils the
requirements brilliantly. Amidst the number, a female voice emerges too
for a while. Chorus does not sound good. Sukhwinder's rapid-fire voice
provides sweetness to the ears. Lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar are plain
average whereas Aadesh's music is simply average that does not gel accurately
with the gorgeous voice of Sukhwinder. An okay track to listen to.
Rating: 5/10
On the whole, the album of Chalte Chalte is very easy on ears and has
a hearing effect for the people who have an ear for music rather it would
go well too with all types of listeners with its soft music and simplicity
of the lyrics.
Overall Rating: 7/10
