ASAMBHAV

Producer: Gulshan Rai
Director: Rajiv Rai
Cast: Arjun Rampal, Priyanka Chopra and Naseeruddin Shah
Music: Viju Shah
Lyrics: Sameer
Singers: Hema Sardesai, Naseeruddin Shah, Nayan Rathod, Rajiv Rai, Anuradha Shriram, K.K, Sunidhi Chauhan, Kavita Subramaniyam and Udit Narayan

Former models Arjun Rampal and Priyanka Chopra are united onscreen for the very first time in the action packed flick Asambhav. The somewhat successful director Rajiv Rai has hired music composer Viju Shah and lyricist Sameer to handle the soundtrack, which features seven songs in total. Does the album have enough potential to become a summer chart topper? Radio Sargam gives its views…

1) Raatein Badi Hain (Hema Sardesai, Naseeruddin Shah, Nayan Rathod and Rajiv Rai)
The album begins with ‘Raatein Badi Hain’, which has been superbly sung by Hema Sardesai. The song also features a husky recitation by Naseeruddin Shah, which is a bonus for fans of the acclaimed actor! Nayan Rathod and Rajiv Rai are merely hired for singing the buzzword ‘Boom’ over and over again. Viju Shah’s instrumental arrangement provides an energetic feel to the track. Sameer provides some decent lyrical value. The video is out on all satellite channels starring the lead protagonist Priyanka Chopra dancing flawlessly. The number is already scoring big on the charts and has capacity to remain fresh until the movie’s release.
Rating: 8.5/10

2) Mashuqa Rubi (Anuradha Shriram, Nayan Rathod and Rajiv Rai)
Anuradha Sriram croons the item number ‘Mashuqa Rubi next in the album. She does an utterly terrible job with the vocals and fails to hit the right notes. Nayan Rathod and Rajiv Rai return again with their buzzword ‘Boom’ but do not hold any appeal this time around. The chorus is lifeless. The low quality of lyrics and composition only degrade the song further. This is a completely forgettable track!
Rating: 2/10

3) Main Sada Hoon (K.K)
K.K does an excellent job with “Main Sada Hoon”, a track that sounds like a theme song. Viju Shah arranges the fast paced instrumental and the drumbeats stick out the most. Sameer’s lyrics are sure to win praises and the same goes for the splendid treatment of music by Viju Shah. This song shows a good effort by the entire team.
Rating: 8/10

4) Raatein Badi Hain (Instrumental)
This instrumental takes nothing away from the original and remains equally impresses.
Rating: 8/10

5) Asambhav Theme (Instrumental)
The energetic instrumental ‘Asambhav Theme’ features next on the playlist. Theme songs are often considered space-fillers but this one surpasses the stigma. The high-voltage number features huge variation in music, making it seem like a hectic journey. Admittedly Naseeruddin Shah’s heavy vocals have always sounded unique, but it’s actually Arjun Rampal who captures the listeners’ attention with his manly voice. The wonderfully scored music does the rest to make the track brilliant from all aspects. This is surely the best one instrumental composed in recent times.
Rating: 9/10

6) Koi Aayega (Sunidhi Chauhan)
Another fast-paced number, “Koi Aayega”, features singing sensation Sunidhi Chauhan. Unsurprisingly the reliable vocalist does a grand job once again. The instrumental sound is thoroughly enjoyable whilst the chorus is just about okay. Sameer being at the writing desk appeals with the lyrics and Viju Shah’s composition goes perfectly well with the mood of the song. “Koi Aayega” seems to be a stage number and is pleasing on ears also.
Rating: 7.5/10

7) Teri Dekh Dekh (Udit Narayan and Kavita Subramaniyam)
The last song on the album is ‘Teri Dekh Dekh’ sung by two legends of singing world Udit Narayan and Kavita Subramaniyam (Kavita Krishnamurthy). Together they both soar sky-high with the flawlessly delivered vocals. The chorus in the background is effective on the ears whereas Sameer’s job has nothing exceptional lyrically. Music by Viju Shah is too average. This last track is a big letdown.
Rating: 2.5/10

Overall:
Viju Shah’s music reaches new highs technically. His electrifying composition certainly makes an impression. Although this isn’t his best work, the Asambhav soundtrack is commendable.
Overall Rating: 8/10
