AASHIQ
Music: Sanjeev Darshan

Bobby Deol and Karisma Kapoor are ready to prove that they are capable of making a hit film together, and they are hoping that their next movie 'Aashiq' will be all the proof that we need. Well, we'll need to wait for the actual film to release before we can discuss that, but for now lets look at its soundtrack and see whether it is up to mark.

Indra Kumar directs the film and it has music by Sanjeev-Darshan, who joined together for the film 'Maan' which spawned a hugely successful album. Therefore, expectations are bound to be high with this one.

Although we have heard songs like the first track before, 'Teri Aankhon Mein Mujhe' is still an enjoyable track that provides very easily listening. People who enjoy heavy doses of melody will be pleased with this song, which features Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan, who have no difficulties at all with this song. A nice way to start the album.

Another strong number is the more upbeat 'O Mere Dholna' with Anuradha Paudwal and Udit Narayan. This one should become popular too and is very catchy. Lyrics are hardly original, but the beat and vocals make this stand out.

Alka Yagnik and Roopkumar Rathod join together for 'Aashiq Mujhe Aashiq', which slows things down completely. The song is quite nice to listen to, although maybe slightly boring. If you like listening to your albums over and over again, then this is the type of song you will enjoy for a while but want to fast forward after too many listens.

'Gori Tera Nakhara' doesn't sound like the typical Sanjeev-Darshan material, and almost makes you think that they should stick to the type of music they do best rather than experimenting. Oh well, a below average song was bound to come up sooner or later and this is the one!

We are back to average songs with 'Tum Kya Jaano', which is sung by Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan. There is not much you can say about this one really, it's not good, its not bad, just average!
Things start going down hill with the song 'Gore Gore Gaal Mere' which is a not-too-good effort by Alka Yagnik. The sings doesn't sound too interested and we cannot really blame her. The song is lame.

'Charche Hain Humare' is another filler - which has been used to buff up the album with another song. Udit Narayan sounds okay, but the song doesn't stand out and is perhaps the weakest on the whole album.

And finally, Udit Naratan tries to end the album on a good note with 'Chhed Do', and fails. The song just doesn't match up to the league of the first two and disappoints. What happened to an album that started off so well?

This album is a good buy for people who don't mind a few good tracks on an album that has more fillers than anything else. Maybe its worth a buy on cassette, where you can listen to the first two songs and then rewind and listen again, and then rewind and listen yet again!
